__________________________

On behalf of the Station Commander, I am emailing to make you aware that Royal Air Force Shawbury is due to undergo an essential airfield refurbishment programme, commencing in July 2024. The work is expected to last for 18 months and will be carried out by Lagan Aviation and Infrastructure (LAI), who have significant experience in this area. Some pre-construction set-up work will start from the end of April, with the main phases delivering from July, which will include: the reconstruction and resurfacing of both runways; resurfacing and repairs of our taxiways; and replacement of approach lighting.

With the scale of these works, there will be some inevitable impact on the local community and hence our wish to inform you in good time for your Committee and residents. Please rest assured that any impact will be minimised wherever possible through a variety of measures. For example, LAI will employ dust and noise monitors to ensure they remain within acceptable levels and works will be planned so that there is minimised disturbance outside of normal working hours. The company have also developed a traffic management plan to reduce our impact on local roads, deconflicting where possible with peak times and any associated nuisance for the local community. Throughout their time at Shawbury, LAI will also work closely with neighbouring businesses to create beneficial relationships and support the local economy wherever possible. This will include, employing local staff and companies, renting accommodation for workers and volunteering within the community for charities or carrying out projects which will improve the local area. Finally, the site will also be registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme, which will ensure compliance with considerate construction practices and also provide another avenue for support for local people.

The Station Commander has written separately to property owners who are immediately adjacent to the airfield. This has included the email address which will be available to anybody who may have questions or concerns at any point throughout the project. This is as follows: LAI at [email protected].

Thank you for your ongoing support of RAF Shawbury.
